Top-flight club confirm signing of West Brom man

Crystal Palace have announced the signing of defender Nathan Ferguson following the expiry of his contract with West Brom.

A Baggies academy graduate, Ferguson made his debut for the club in their 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the Championship season, and went onto make 21 appearances for Slaven Bilic’s side over the course of the campaign.

However, none of those appearances came after a reported £11million move to Crystal Palace fell through on the final day of the January transfer window, after a knee injury was apparently uncovered during Ferguson’s medical.

But with the teenager’s contract at West Brom coming to an end this summer, Palace have now got their man, after confirming that Ferguson has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club, securing his future at Selhurst Park until the end of the 2022/23 season.

has expired, the two clubs will head to a tribunal over a fee for the 19-year-old, with the Baggies entitled to compensation costs for training due to the fact that Ferguson is under the age of 23.

This could be a decent move for Ferguson, with Palace comfortably established in the Premier League for several years now.

However, it does seem slightly ironic that this has come at a time when the Baggies themselves are closing in on a return to the Premier League, and having been a regular for Slaven Bilic during the first half of the season, you have to wonder whether opportunities would have been more forthcoming for Ferguson in the next few years, had he stayed at The Hawthorns.
