West Bromwich Albion took a 1-0 victory over Luton Town in the first round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening and one man, in particular, took the plaudits.
A goal from Oliver Burke in the second half of the match was enough to secure victory and ensure our place in the second round draw, and it was the Scottish internationals first goal for the club following his arrival from RB Leipzig back in August 2017.
Whilst he won plenty of plaudits for his own showing on the day, I think the stand out performer was Kyle Edwards given his youthful attacking display.
It was the 20-year-old’s club debut as he came on as a second half substitute, with his game experience coming from his loan out with Exeter City last season, and having impressed over pre-season, he’s certainly won some fans over with comparisons to Raheem Sterling.
Every time I’ve seen Kyle Edwards it looks like he has a similar playing style to Reheem Sterling.. plays quite wide.. one twos around the box.. did really well tonight with his link play #wba

Really should get more game time in midfield this season

Exciting times. I believe DM is the right manager for the youngsters to break into the side

I’ve not been Burke’s biggest fan, but he played well tonight, Edwards looks good. Lots of positives to take out #wba

I was impressed with Harper last night, believe he will have a very bright future. Field was tidy at CB, Leko & Edwards came on and were skilful and pacey. Good to see 4 of our academy in the squad #wba

Always seemed set to be a big year for the youngsters with Darren Moore at the helm, but good to see Harper and Edwards take their chances, as it could be their year if they keep impressing.
