“The man for the job”, “Coup” – Many West Brom fans react to transfer chief’s words

Sporting and technical director Luke Dowling has opened up on his delight at bringing in Slaven Bilic last summer – and plenty of fans seem to be agreeing.

Dowling joined the club in September 2018 and has then since been in charge of the club’s recruitment for both players and coaching staff.

Since his arrival there has been a lot of personnel come through the door, but there is no one who he deems more important than the Croatian head coach.

Dowling joined the club after spells at Watford and Nottingham Forest, and he is responsible for getting players such as Matheus Pereira and Romaine Sawyers through the door.

Speaking to Joseph Masi at the Express and Star, Dowling discussed just how important he deems Bilic to be.

He said: “I think he (Bilic) is the best thing that has happened in the 18 months that I have been at the club.

“When you are compiling manager lists and player lists they can look really good.

“But I only look at a list on what is achievable. I just felt by putting Slaven on the list for the owners and Mark Jenkins in the summer, he was achievable.

“The feeling I got when I first met him in the summer – I knew straight away I wanted him to be our manager.

“He has got this aura about him.

“But he has got that experience as well – hence why we wanted to speak to him.”

Unsurprisingly, with West Brom second in the league and looking like they have a great shot of promotion, fans also seemed delighted with the appointment.

Bilic has done a great job at West Brom so far with fans really getting behind him.

If he can push the club back to the Premier League then that support is only likely to get even stronger.
