Roy Hodgson has admitted it would be harsh to drop Gareth McAuley following his debut, so Gabriel Tamas has a real battle on his hands now.

The ridiculous red card incident opened the way for Hodgson to look at Dawson and McAuley, and both performed well, so it’s now very unlikely that Tamas will walk straight back into the team.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Roy said.

‘Both Dawson and McAuley have done very well. Both had to wait for their chance, Gabriel unfortunately lost his place to those two when he got sent off and I’ve got to say it would be hard to leave McAuley out following his performance against Fulham when he was voted man of the match.’
