Shane Long has admitted it was strange to face off against former club Reading last weekend, but he’s obviously delighted that we got the win.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Long admitted that it felt weird lining up against the club he spent 6 years at.

‘It was very strange. The Reading fans were singing my name and then I had to come on and try to beat them. I’m sure they’ll do well and I hope they do.’

Long also talked of his admiration for Brian McDermott.

‘I was struggling, I wasn’t playing well, but he stuck by me. He gave me his spare room for two months and took me under his wing. I was cutting his lawn and he really looked after me. I owe him everything and I’ll be forever grateful.’

Moving back to an Albion perspective, Long also spoke about Romelu Lukaku.

‘Rom ran them ragged for 60 minutes and it was nice to come on and test my legs. Lukaku is a handful for everybody. He’s still only 19 and he’s near enough the complete striker. He’s a big addition to our team.’

We just have to work out how to stop him returning to Chelsea now!
