Should You Ever Return In Football – West Brom Fans Split On Striker Speculation

|

Speculation linking West Bromwich Albion head coach Darren Moore with a swoop for former loanee Matej Vydra has certainly split opinions on the interweb.

The Czech Republic striker spent the 2013/14 season out on loan with us and it’s fair to say it wasn’t a roaring success. Nine starting appearances and 16 substitute showings only returned three goals, but he did pick up his Watford form when back at Watford the following year. A choppy spell at Reading has since seen 27 goals for Derby County in 56 starts and 24 substitute appearances.

Last season saw him make 44 of those appearances and he contributed 22 goals across all competitions – 21 of which came in the Championship, so he is proven at this level.

With the managerial merry-go-round back in full force at Elland Road, it’s not believed that Leeds are in pole position for Vydra despite Marcelo Bielsa being a fan – he’s yet to be appointed basically.

Their shenanigans have led the Yorkshire Evening Post to posit that the 26-year-old could be ours for the taking if we were to act quickly given they say we do carry an interest.

Despite relegation from the Premier League, with parachute payments, they also point to us being in a stronger financial position to compete for his services both in terms of the fee that would tempt Derby to deal, but also his wage. For reference, the suggestion is £8-10million and of course, Salomon Rondon’s release fee is in excess of that.

It must be said the report suggesting our interest leans on nothing, so it could simply be borne out of the fact we are a former club.

It’s certainly sparked a reaction though and fans are mixed with pros and cons on either side of the coin, especially given the other names we have been linked with.
