Roy Hodgson has hailed the team following our 2-0 defeat to Manchester United today having been impressed with their work ethic and the way they battled.

Speaking to wba.co.uk after the game the head coach said.

‘We made a good fist of the first half until Rooney’s goal. We were working hard to contain them. I didn’t think we were attacking them well during that period, when we won the ball back we tended to lose it too easily, but certainly we were making life difficult.’

After Jonas Olsson’s dismissal Albion certainly had a mountain to climb, but Hodgson was pleased with how we kept to our defensive duties and ensured we weren’t on the wrong side of a thumping.

‘To be frank, after that (sending off + 2nd goal) it is just a question of making sure you don’t go away from here with a really heavy defeat. I think I can commend the players for the effort they put in. There were plenty of tired legs out there but they never gave up and never stopped fighting.’
