Roy Hodgson was delighted to see his selected XI take the game to Bournemouth and secure a good 4-1 victory in the second round of the Carling Cup last night.

Hodgson made a number of changes – well 11 to be exact – to the line up, and was delighted with their application.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson said.

‘We work very hard in training with all the players, we don’t just work with 11. My message to them tonight was that they made sure they showed me they had the discipline, organisations and quality in their decision making that I expect from players. I was quite happy with a lot of the players and I got from them what I expected.’

Hodgson added that a few of the players’ performances have given him some thought for our next Premiership encounter.

‘We are taking this competition seriously, but I would also like to use some of the players that I think deserve a chance to show me what they can do at first team level. Tonight, we saw one or two players take a chance to impress upon me that maybe I should be considering them for the first team. At the moment, I haven’t picked the team for Stoke.’
