Following the speculation linking us with striker Salomon Rondon, he has today put pen to paper on a four year deal at West Bromwich Albion.

The 25 year old comes in from Zenit St Petersburg for a new club record signing and wba.co.uk list it as being in the region of £12million.

The player has been with us apparently since last week and sailed through his medical, but we’ve had to be patient waiting for his international clearance to come through – but with that now in place whilst he can’t play a part in the Premier League opener tonight against Manchester City, he will be eligible for his debut next weekend when we face Watford.

The player said of his move to us.

‘I am very happy to be here. This is a new opportunity in my career. I can`t wait to be with the other players and to play. The club showed a lot of interest in me, that`s what is important for a player, what you take into account, and there are expectations of me.’

With Rondon becoming our fifth capture of the summer following on from the James’ McClean and Chester, Rickie Lambert and Serge Gnaby, head coach Tony Pulis said he was very excited to work with the player now.

‘He`s got a fantastic goalscoring record in some of the top leagues in Europe and for his country. He`s 25 years of age and still to fulfil his full potential. We hope he hits the ground running of course but understand it might take him time to settle. I`m sure our fans will help him and get behind him. But we feel with age on his side and the prices English clubs are asking for their players, it`s a deal worth doing.’

Pulis went on to say he’s more than done his homework on the player and he’s spoken to Manuel Pellegrini and Andre Villas-Boas who worked with him previously, and they had nothing but good to say about him.
