It was being reported yesterday that West Bromwich Albion were on the verge of announcing a deal for Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez.

Sky Sports reported yesterday that following the speculation earlier in the week about head coach Tony Pulis potentially finally landing the man he’d been after for a few seasons, that an initially transfer fee of £12million had been agreed between both clubs, with an additional £3million of potential addons.

It now means, if true, only personal details need knuckling down with the 27 year old former Burnley player.

Sky suggest the deal could be confirmed on Monday and following his long term injury that interrupted speculation that he would become an England regular, he did struggle for game time last season with then manager Claude Puel preferring Charlie Auston and Shane Long, prior to the arrival of Manolo Gabbiadini, so his future was in doubt but his fitness now certainly isn’t.

If the deal comes off, he will become our first signing of the summer and bolster what is in reality a threadbare frontline.
