Striker Hal Robson-Kanu has been rewarded for his efforts in his debut season with West Bromwich Albion and the Welsh international has been handed a contract extension.

The 28 year old forward has now signed a deal taking him through until the summer of 2020 and of course his winner at Southampton was awarded Goal of the Season last term.

Head coach Tony Pulis told wba.co.uk that he’d been delighted by Robson-Kanu’s professionalism and efforts, and he felt he fully deserved his new three year deal.

‘Hal’s a great lad, hard-working and an honest pro who fits in well with the group. I’m glad that we have been able to tie him down.’

Robson-Kanu himself explained.

‘I’m delighted because it’s an opportunity to build on the good work we did last season and now I’m just looking forward to the new one. It was an easy decision. I’ve enjoyed my time here playing under Tony Pulis. It was a strong season and I want to build on the good work and contribute to a more successful future. As soon as I arrived the fans took to me and that love grew over the course of the season. And the lads have been terrific – they are a fantastic bunch of players and you can see there is a real togetherness in the squad.’

With Jay Rodriguez arriving as competition, he went on to say.

‘It’s vital competition. We want to be as competitive as possible and everyone will be pushing each other over the course of the season. I think where we finished was great for the club but it’s something we definitely want to build on and progress further as we go forward.’
