Report: West Brom to battle with local rivals for 20 goal English talisman with PL experience

|

West Brom are set to challenge Aston Villa for the signing of Huddersfield Town striker Karlan Grant in the summer transfer window.

Sky Sports News report that the two Birmingham clubs are keen on the 22-year-old attacker, as well as Championship side Fulham, who could join the race for Grant in the summer if the Cottagers be promoted to the Premier League this season.

Grant has been one of the surprise packages of the Championship this season with the former Charlton Athletic attacker being involved in 20 goals (16 goals and four assists) for the Terriers as Daniel Crowley’s side continue to claw their way out of the pits of the league table, with Huddersfield currently sitting in 18th place.

Slaven Bilic was reportedly interested in the striker in the January transfer window according to The Birmingham Mail, however, a deal failed to materialise as West Brom went for Callum Robinson from Sheffield United and Kamil Grosicki from Hull City instead, yet promotion to the Premier League could see the Croatian manager go back in for the Huddersfield talisman.

Grant was part of the Terriers side that were relegated from the Premier League in the 2018/19 season, with the youngster scoring four goals in the English top-flight as Huddersfield finished rock bottom of the standings, and this partial experience could be useful to Bilic’s side should they book their place in the first division next year.

West Brom will need attackers with Premier League experience if they are promoted this season, and whilst Grant didn’t impress too much in his first outing in the division, his breakout year in the Championship could prove to be a huge learning curve and confidence boost for the attacker who could lead the Baggies frontline for years to come should he hit the ground running.
