Report: West Brom star to miss crucial period of season after discovering FA punishment

|

Matheus Pereira could be set to miss West Brom’s next three games after being charged by the FA of violent conduct following an altercation with Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen.

BBC Sport report that the Brazilian attacker breached FA Rule E1(a) after elbowing the Potters midfielder, an incident that was missed by the referee on the night but caught on TV cameras, and as a result, Pereira could be in line to miss West Brom’s next three games.

If found guilty, the 23-year-old attacker will miss this weekend’s FA Cup fixture against West Ham as well as the Baggies Championship clashes against Cardiff City and Luton Town, with Slaven Bilic’s side in desperate need of returning to good form to continue their march for promotion to the Premier League.

Is Matheus Pereira the best player in the Championship?

Yes

No

Pereira has been one of West Brom’s best players this season after joining the club on loan from Sporting Lisbon in the summer, a deal in which The Express and Star report will become a permanent one once the Brazilian reaches 30 league appearances for the Baggies.

As stats from WhoScored show, Pereira has been a creative juggernaut for West Brom this campaign, with the Sporting youngster scoring five and assisting a league-high 10 goals in his 26 Championship appearances so far, which is why the attacker will be such a miss for the Albion over the next three games.

With West Brom yet to win a Championship game in 2020 and currently going well over a month without claiming three points from a fixture, the Baggies face a real certainty of dropping out of the automatic promotion spots if results fail to pick up, and the next few games without Pereira could be costly for the Albion.
