Report: West Brom make significant decision on future of 23-y/o

|

West Brom will look to sell Oliver Burke when the summer transfer window reopens, a report from The Athletic has claimed.

Burke joined the Baggies from German side RB Leipzig back in the summer of 2017 for a reported fee of £15million.

Since then however, things have not gone to plan for either club or player, with Burke making just 24 appearances in all competitions for the Baggies, scoring once.

Having spent part of last season on loan at Celtic, Burke is now approaching the end of a season-long loan in Spain with Alaves, for whom he has scored once in 29 appearances in total, and it now seems as though West Brom could look to secure an extended exit for Burke this summer.

According to the latest reports, West Brom will look to sell Burke this summer in an attempt to make back some of the fee they paid for him three years ago.

However, it seems the Baggies may be unsuccessful in their attempts to do that, with the report going on to suggest that a more likely outcome will see Burke leave the club for free when his contract at The Hawthorns eventually expires in two years time.

Is Oliver Burke West Brom's worst ever signing?

Yes

No

Should that happen, it would no doubt be a huge source of disappointment for the Baggies.

With Burke having not repaid the club’s investment on the pitch, they would have at least hoped to make some money back on the midfielder in the transfer window, which they could have then used to strengthen their side further.

As it is, this looks likely to go down as a deal that everyone concerned with both the club and player, would probably rather forget about as soon as possible.
