Report: West Brom keen to sign Premier League player who spent last season on-loan in the Championship

|

West Brom are interested in signing Tottenham attacking midfielder Jack Clarke, a report from The Evening Standard has claimed.

Having joined Tottenham from Leeds on a permanent basis last summer, the 19-year-old has yet to make his senior debut for Spurs, instead spending last season back on loan in the Championship.

Indeed, Clarke even struggled for opportunities in the second-tier last season, featuring only once in the Championship for Leeds after returning to the club on a temporary basis following confirmation of that move to Spurs, before a loan switch to QPR in January brought about just six more league outings, all of which came from the bench.

Despite that, it seems West Brom are keen on adding Clarke to their ranks ahead of their return to the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship last season.

According to the latest reports, the Baggies are interested in a potential loan move for Clarke in the summer as they look to boost their squad for their return to the top-flight, with Brentford – who missed out on promotion after defeat in the play-off final – also keen on a move for the 19-year-old.

Should West Brom try to sign Jack Clarke this summer?

Yes

No

However, it seems there is no guarantee Clarke will be leaving Tottenham this summer, with manager Jose Mourinho reportedly keen to give the teenager the chance to prove himself in pre-season before deciding whether or not to send him out on loan for the coming campaign.

This does look to be a rather strange target for West Brom in all honesty.

Clarke is still relatively untested in the Championship, let alone the Premier League, so you have to question whether he would be capable of making an impact in the top-flight this season.

Indeed, given the need to strengthen in attack that West Brom have at the minute, it feels as though this would be a big risk for them to take, meaning they may be better off exploring alternative targets for the time being.
