Report: West Brom keen to sign 19-year-old free agent with Premier League experience

|

West Brom are interested in signing free agent Jeremy Ngakia following his departure from West Ham earlier this summer, a report from a print edition of The Sun (27/07, p17) has claimed.

Ngakia made five Premier League appearances for the Hammers this season, but left the club after failing to agree a new contract at the London Stadium when his previous deal expired at the end of June.

Now it seems as though West Brom could look to take advantage of that, with the latest reports claiming that the Baggies are keen to bring the 19-year-old to The Hawthorns ahead of their return to the Premier League next season.

It seems as though the Championship promotion winners are not alone in their interest in Ngakia however, with Bundesliga side Schalke also reportedly keen, although the attacker’s apparent preference to remain in the Premier League could help Slaven Bilic’s side here.

Would Ngakia be a good signing for West Brom?

Yes

No

Considering the potential he has shown during his short career so far, it does seem as though a move for Ngakia could be worth considering for the Baggies, both in the short-term and the long-term.

Indeed, as an exciting young attacker making his way at the top level of the game, Ngakia does appear to fit the bill for what the Baggies have seemingly been looking for during their time under Bilic.

However, with Ngakia’s contract talks with West Ham reportedly falling through over his wage demands, and the fact that his age means West Brom would have to pay a compensation fee to the Hammers, this may not be a particularly cheap deal for the Baggies even in the absence of a transfer fee.

As a result, this could be something of a risky move for a club just returning to the Premier League, meaning West Brom should not be rushing into anything here.
