Report: West Brom keen on signing 29-goal striker

West Brom are interested in signing striker Alfredo Morelos from Scottish giants Rangers, a report from the Daily Record has claimed.

Morelos enjoyed another impressive campaign at Ibrox last season, scoring 29 goals in 46 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side – including 14 in 16 games in the still to be completed Europa League – and it seems that has attracted plenty of attention from elsewhere.

According to the latest reports, Lille have agreed terms with Morelos over a move to France for the striker, although they have yet to agree a fee for the transfer with Rangers, something which has alerted West Brom.

It is thought that the Baggies could look to pounce with a move for Morelos of their own, although that may not be easy for the newly-promoted Premier League club.

Lille are still said to be Morelos’ preferred destination, although they have apparently been told that it will cost more than £15million to sign the Colombian, with Rangers not under any financial pressure to sell.

West Brom themselves reportedly had a £12million bid for Morelos rejected last summer, and it seems as though it will take a bit more than that to be successful in this particular transfer pursuit this time around.

If they were to pull this off however, it would be something of a coup for the Baggies.

There can be little arguing with the suggestion that the club do need to sign a goalscorer this summer, and there can be no doubt that Morelos has a record that indicates he would be able to do that.

The high profile nature of this signing would also make it something of a statement of intent from the Baggies on their return to the Premier League should they pull it off, and you feel the chance to play in English football’s top-flight should be an appealing one for the striker.
