Report: West Brom have held talks about signing 23-goal 22-y/o

West Brom have held talks about the potential signing of Huddersfield Town attacker Karlan Grant, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Baggies look to be in the market for a striker this summer, as they look to add more firepower to their side ahead of their return to the Premier League next month.

According to the latest reports, one player to have emerged as a contender to fill that role is Grant.

It is thought that the Baggies see Grant as a cheaper option to target than a player such as Brentford’s Ollie Watkins, who is himself in demand this summer following the Bees’ failure to win promotion to the Premier League.

Since joining Huddersfield from Charlton in January 2019, Grant has scored 23 goals in 57 appearances in all competitions for the club, which includes finding the net 19 times in the Championship last season to help the Terries avoid relegation to League One.

As things stand, there are two years remaining on Grant’s contract with Huddersfield, putting them in a decent position to negotiate any offers that come in for the 22-year-old.

Even so, Grant is likely to be keen to get another chance to prove himself in the Premier League, meaning this could be a very useful signing for the Baggies.

Grant impressed in English football’s top-flight when he arrived at Huddersfield midway through the 2018/19 season, but with the club already in freefall by then, he was never going to save them from relegation.

Having a full campaign in the Premier League, as he would do if he moved to The Hawthorns now, could certainly ensure that things turn out differently, both for Grant and the Baggies, for whom adding a goalscorer feels absolutely crucial after the somewhat underwhelming returns of the likes of Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu last season.
