Report: WBA prospect once targeted by CL winners and European giants open to January window move

|

West Brom youngster Rekeem Harper is reportedly keen on leaving the club in January on loan after falling out of favour with Slaven Bilic in the Baggies starting XI.

The Athletic claim that the 19-year-old midfielder, who last season broke into the West Brom first-team towards the latter end of the campaign as stats from Transfermarkt show, could be loaned out in the January transfer window after failing to impress Bilic despite signing a new three-year deal with the club in the summer.

Do West Brom have the best squad in the Championship?

Yes

No

Harper was last summer courted by the likes of Champions League winners Liverpool as well as the likes of Serie A champions Juventus as reported by The Mirror before the teenage midfielder committed his future with the Baggies, however, this season has seen Harper slip down the pecking order massively at West Brom.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Harper has hardly featured for West Brom this season, with the versatile midfielder playing just six minutes of Championship football this year as Bilic’s Albion currently lead the league table.

And Harper’s situation with West Brom is unlikely to change with Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore the midfield duo Bilic prefers with a fully healthy squad, whilst the Croatian manager also has the likes of Gareth Barry, Chris Brunt and Filip Krovinovic to call upon should he need reinforcements in central midfield.

The teenage midfielder was incredibly hyped last season after impressing in the Baggies midfield in a crucial period of the season for Bilic’s side, so it is easy to understand why Harper is seemingly keen to leave the club temporarily on-loan for the remainder of the season.

The youngster is facing a reality check this season, and although Harper was superb for West Brom last season, it is looking like the teenager will need a loan spell to save his career with the Championship side.
