Report: WBA keen to beat English giants for the signature of Premier League striker with 0 goals

West Brom are reportedly keen to beat Championship rivals Leeds United to the signing of Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick.

Football Insider claim that the Baggies are confident in getting the best of Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the race for the veteran attacker by offering the Blades centre-forward a better financial package which could see the Republic of Ireland attacker make the move to the Hawthorns.

West Brom are actively looking for a striker this January window with the Baggies already linked with a host of attackers this month, with The Athletic reporting that Slaven Bilic’s side were looking for ways to accommodate Hull City’s £20m asking price for Jarrod Bowen to The Daily Mail reporting that Che Adams is also on the club’s radar with the Southampton forward seemingly keen on leaving the club on loan.

Do West Brom need to spend in January?

Yes, the squad needs that extra something

No, we're sorted for now

With the Albion in a fierce title battle at the top of the Championship with Leeds, extra firepower could be what’s need for West Brom to end the season with the title in their trophy cabinet, yet McGoldrick might not be the answer.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, McGoldrick’s stats for Sheffield United have made for gloom reading, with the former Ipswich Town attacker failing to score for the Blades this season despite making 18 Premier League appearances, starting 15.

As well as failing to find the net yet under Chris Wilder this campaign, McGoldrick’s age could raise an eyebrow for West Brom supporters, who were seemingly hoping for the club to sign an attacker on the younger side of the age spectrum, not a player in well into his thirties.
