Report: Slaven Bilic makes strong West Brom claim ahead of promotion decider

|

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic says that he is “confident” his side can secure automatic promotion to the Premier League against QPR on Wednesday, and is adamant that his side deserve to do just that.

Having occupied a top-two spot for much of the season, defeat away at Huddersfield in the penultimate game of the season on Friday looked to have taken promotion out of the Baggies’ hands.

However, Brentford’s defeat at Stoke the following day, means that West Brom know that if they beat QPR on Wednesday, they will be promoted regardless of results elsewhere, and Bilic believes his side have got what it takes to claim those all-important three points.

Speaking to The Birmingham Mail ahead of the game, Bilic said: “That’s where we belong [in the top two]. Now one game before the end of the season, we are in a position to cross the line.

“We are confident, we are optimistic, I’m extremely positive that we are going to do it. We are ready for the game.”

Indeed, Bilic feels it will only be right if West Brom win promotion this season, given how much of the campaign they have spent in an automatic promotion spot, as he continued: “We’ve brought it back into our hands [due to Brentford’s result].

“Obviously that result pleased us and gave us a lift. And as we deserve, we stay where we have been the whole season basically, in the top two.”

Is Bilic right that West Brom deserve automatic promotion?

Yes

No

It is hard to argue with Bilic here.

To hold an automatic promotion place for so much of the season shows the Baggies are a team who have the ability required to compete in the top-flight of English football, and you feel they should make sure of that on Wednesday.
Having been let off the hook once at the weekend, they will sure be desperate not to hand the advantage to Brentford again in midweek, and the fact they are up against a QPR side with nothing left to play for this season, should also play into their hands here.
