Report: Portuguese giants contemplating recalling West Brom attacker in January transfer window

|

Benfica are reportedly considering terminating Chris Willock’s loan move at West Brom in the January transfer window after a severe lack of game time for the youngster.

According to O Jogo via Sport Witness, the former Arsenal academy star could be back in Portugal in the New Year if his current situation with the Baggies doesn’t improve despite the report claiming that Slaven Bilic is a fan of the 21-year-old winger.

As per the report, Willock’s problem is that there are more players in the West Brom squad that are already performing well in the Championship, with the likes of Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira thoroughly enjoying life with the Albion this season, leaving the 21-year-old Benfica prospect out in the cold.

Do West Brom have the best squad in the Championship?

Yes

No

As stats from Transfermarkt show, the youngster is yet to play a single first-team minute for West Brom this season, instead, settling for youth football in Premier League 2 in which Willock has already scored four and assisted five in 10 appearances.

Despite The Express and Star reporting back in November that the club were considering making Willock’s transfer a permanent one, it appears that the most likely outcome from the youngster’s time with the Championship side will be him packing his bags and returning to Portugal.

Although Willock’s numbers in Premier League 2 have been impressive, the former Arsenal academy graduate has just not been handed a single opportunity to impress Bilic in the first-team in large part due to how impressive West Brom’s attackers have been this season.

The 21-year-old arrived at the Hawthorns with plenty of fanfare, but it has quickly died down it one of the club’s most disappointing transfers of the summer, and being recalled back to Portugal could be the best thing for both Willock and West Brom.
