Crystal Palace are still eager to sign Nathan Ferguson, despite the defender failing a medical on Deadline Day in January ahead of his planned move to the Premier League side.

Jack Rosser of The Evening Standard revealed in a Q&A that the Eagles are “very confident” in signing the 19-year-old fullback this summer, with Ferguson’s deal set to expire with West Brom allowing for the youngster to move to Selhurst Park without a transfer free after the academy graduate refused to sign new terms with his boyhood club.

Ferguson looked all set to join Palace in the final hours of the January transfer window this summer, with BBC Sport reporting that the West Brom prospect was on the brink of making the switch to the south London sie. But, as The Athletic revealed in February, the transfer collapsed as the Premier League side were unwilling to sign the defender after it emerged that Ferguson had picked up a knee injury that required surgery.

With the defender playing just once in 2020, it is likely that West Brom supporters have seen the last of Ferguson in the black and white of the Albion, with Palace now set to sign one of the club’s top academy graduates for nothing after the club failed to agree on a new deal with the defender.

The departure of Ferguson was always something every supporter knew was on the horizon, and after the Deadline Day deal collapsed plus this new update, it is now a matter of when the 19-year-old will leave West Brom rather than if, with the defender set to win his dream move to the Premier League after a breakthrough season at the Hawthorns under Slaven Bilic.
