Former West Brom midfielder Nigel Quashie has voiced his backing for Matheus Pereira to be a success in the Premier League should the Baggies be promoted.

Speaking to Football League World, the ex-Scotland international believes that the Brazilian attacker has been a sensation for West Brom since joining on loan from Sporting Lisbon last summer, with Pereira developing into one of Slaven Bilic’s most important players this campaign with the Baggies currently sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table.

As stats from WhoScored show, Pereira has been one of the league’s most productive players in terms of goals and assists, with the 23-year-old ace’s s goals and 11 assists being one of the highest in the Championship this campaign and a crucial part to West Brom’s solid form this season, and Quashie believes that the youngster could make a splash in the Premier League.

Is Matheus Pereira the best player in the Championship?

Yes

No

When asked if he believes Pereira is ready for the step up, Quashie said: “Yes 100%. He has been first class, to be honest. What has stood out the most, even though he has quality on the ball, is his work ethic and his attitude has been great to see. I have always been an admirer of him since he has come into the club, and he has really stamped his authority on the team and the squad.”

Pereira might have only scored his first goal of the New Year this week, but there is no denying that the Brazilian attacker is set to play yet another crucial part of West Brom’s season heading into the second half of the campaign.

With West Brom also in line to sign the winger permanently from Sporting Lisbon sometime this season as reported by Sky Sports News, Pereira is set to have a key role for the Baggies beyond this year, and for supporters, they hope it will be part of the squad returning to the Premier League after two years away from the English top-flight.
