Report: Ex-Premier League star believes WBA have the right ‘nucleus’ to ‘compete’ with the best

|

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has confessed that he believes West Brom have all the necessary qualities needed to compete in the Premier League next season.

Speaking to Football Insider, the TalkSPORT pundit admitted that the Baggies have several players who can make the leap from Championship football to the Premier League, with Bent highlighting the likes of Matheus Pereira and Romaine Sawyers as names who could compete in the English top-flight.

West Brom, as well as Leeds United, have set themselves apart from the pack in the Championship this season, with the league table showing that the two English heavyweights are both nine points above third in the standings, making the Baggies one of the favourites to claim promotion to the Premier League this campaign.

Do West Brom need to spend in January?

Yes, the squad needs that extra something

No, we're sorted for now

And Bent believes Slaven Bilic’s side can make it, with the former Tottenham striker saying: “There’s a couple of them (West Brom players) who could make the step up to the Premier League, there’s a fair few of them. Pereira, he’s got great feet, can play that number ten role. I’m a big fan of his, he seems to be getting better and better, I think he’s got the right manager who believes in him.

The former Premier League star added with: “When you’ve got Romaine Sawyers in there behind you protecting you, it makes you play. I think if West Brom does go up, they have to add one or two but they’ve got the nucleus of a team who can compete in the Premier League.”

With West Brom setting themselves apart from teams competing in the play-offs, it seemingly appears that Bent’s theory is correct that the Baggies have a squad that could make the jump to Premier League football with ease with an extra addition in some areas of the team.
