Report: Ex-PL rock admits WBA landed “a bargain” in ace helping them “run away with the league”

|

Former Premier League defender Alex Bruce has lavished West Brom with praise for the way they conducted business to sign Matheus Pereira in the summer.

Sitting down with Football Insider, the ex-Hull City rock admitted that the Baggies landed themselves a bargain in this current market as Slaven Bilic’s side secured a loan-to-buy deal with Sporting Lisbon for the Brazilian ace, who has been a revelation for West Brom.

As stats from WhoScored show, the 23-year-old attacker has been a creative juggernaut for West Brom this campaign with the attacking midfielder scoring six and assisting a further 12 as the Albion top the Championship table, and for Bruce, the Hawthorns side have found themselves a bargain in Pereira.

Is Matheus Pereira the best player in the Championship?

Yes

No

The now-retired defender said about the Sporting loanee: “It is a bargain, especially when you look in today’s market for the prices that people are paying. It’s ridiculous, £8.5million or whatever is a bargain nowadays. If he goes on and they get promotion, which I think they will do, I think they’ll run away with the league, and I have to be honest, he’s a major plus. He looks a cut above the rest of the Championship. He’s obviously a good player, and when you put stats like that on the table as well, he’s been a huge influence in creating goals.”

With Pereira’s deal with West Brom set to become a permanent one this month as the Brazilian hits 30 games played, the youngster could stand to be one of the best bargains for a Championship side in recent history.

The 23-year-old’s impact with the Baggies has been nothing short of incredible, with Pereira’s goals and assists proving to be priceless for Bilic’s side, and with automatic promotion on the table for West Brom, the attacker’s form will be pivotal for the Albion gaining Premier League status for next season.
