Report: EFL to aid WBA in transfer nightmare following £235k departure of ex-academy star

|

The EFL have offered their services to West Brom as the Baggies continue to seek compensation from FC Barcelona for the signing of former academy star Louis Barry.

The Express and Star report that the English footballing body will assist the Baggies in what has been a nightmare scenario for the Hawthorns club, with West Brom yet to receive any form of income from the European giants following the departure of Barry to the La Liga side last summer.

Under FIFA compensation laws, West Brom were due £235,000 for the sale of Barry following his move to Barcelona in 2019, however, the Baggies are yet to receive a penny from the Catalonian side despite the Championship club urging the world governing body to force the Spanish champions to pay up for the England youth international.

Since his move to Barcelona, though, Barry has again been on the move with the 16-year-old striker joining Birmingham rivals Aston Villa in the January transfer window for a reported fee of £880,000, further angering West Brom as they continue to wait for the finances they are owed from the Champions League club.

Teaming up with the EFL should accelerate the process as it will offer West Brom the legal representatives they need to seek the money they are owed from Barcelona, with The Express and Star report noting that the Baggies have been in contact with lawyers to determine if Barca were legally able to sell Barry despite having not paid the lack of compensation Albion are owed.

This nightmare episode has been an exhaustive and prolonged inconvenience for West Brom, but with the EFL on their side to challenge Barcelona, the Catalan side could send over the compensation sooner rather than later.
