Report Claims Benitez Wants To Make West Brom Man His First Chinese Capture

|

With the long draw out saga of West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon and his potential move to Newcastle United seeming to come to a close with the departure of Rafa Benitez from St James’ Park, China is now being said to be a potential destination for the 29-year-old.

Rondon Rumours Continue, One Club Drops Out Of The Race, Another One Joins

With Wolverhampton Wanderers also said to have an interest, but not at his reported £16.5million release fee, speculation linking him with a move to Roma has also stalled in recent times. According to a report from Sky Sports on Monday, with Benitez moving to Dalian Yifang the other week, they believe that he now wants to take the Venezuelan with him and make him his first signing in China.

With the money in the Chinese Super League, his stated release clause shouldn’t be an issue for them in reality and given Rondon enjoyed his time under the Spaniard last year – 11 goals in 32 Premier League matches – the claim is very believable and it certainly hasn’t sounded like Rondon was looking forward to returning to The Hawthorns, so it’ll be interesting to see how quickly this one now gains traction.
