It was a hugely disappointing night for West Brom on Friday, as their automatic promotion hopes were left hanging by a thread following a 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield.
Things started badly for the Baggies when Chris Willock put the hosts in front early on after a Juninho Bacuna free-kick caused trouble in the West Brom area.
West Brom levelled from a free-kick of their own shortly before half time, Dara O’Shea heading in after Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl could only parry a Matheus Pereira free-kick.
But Slaven Bilic’s side knew they needed a win to keep automatic promotion in their own hands, and while they went searching for that second goal, a finishing touch was badly lacking, something they were punished for with just five minutes to go, as Emile Smith Rowe struck to snatch a late winner for Huddersfield.

As well as securing promotion for Leeds, that defeat for West Brom means that two wins for Brentford in their remaining two games will guarantee them promotion, and leave the Baggies facing the lottery of the play-offs for the second season in a row.
Taking to Twitter to react to that defeat, plenty of Baggies fans were understandably far from impressed from what they saw on Friday, and here, we take a look at what some of them had to say.
Bottle jobs absolute joke! This club will be the death of me

From a 12 point cushion at Xmas to blowing automatic promotion with a game to spare. Quite an achievement to fail so hard and throw it away.
We need a new winger, new striker, new left back, new midfielder who actually runs and new goalkeeper for next seasons championship season!— JonW1995 (@JonW1995) July 17, 2020
If there is one thing we are good at it’s helping other teams avoid relegation and now win leagues. Well done Leeds and Brentford, deserved it. SPOILER We won’t win the playoffs pic.twitter.com/BfLhJk4ZNb

I say this because I want a reaction from the team not because I want a cheap pop. Baggies you were embarrassing tonight in every aspect from coach to player. There is no positive. As bad as I have seen for baggies when we needed more. You let yourselves and the fans down

Stay positive. It’s not over yet. Say what you want but we are not finished. We can still do this. Just another bump in our road to the prem
