Question Time – Hull City

1. Are you happy with the appointment of Phil Parkinson?

Definitely, even though in a recent site poll he was only second choice. I think he has done a great job at Colchester and his emphasis on player fitness is crucial to us, as last season we looked jaded in a lot of matches. Having seen a couple of our pre season friendlies i have been impressed with the football we have been playing and the whole operation looks more professional. Its good to have a young manager with fresh ideas.

2. Who is the main danger for Hull that we should watch out for?

Recent signing Dean Marney looks a class act, and if he can gell in midfield with John Welsh then he could be the attacking midfielder we have been crying out for. Obviously if Nick Barmby returns from injury in time then his ability to link the midfield and forwards will be crucial. Craig Fagan on the right wing is also a big danger he is very fast and can whip in a telling cross.

3. Were you happy with Hull`s performance last season?

At the start of the season consolidation was the key word which we managed, Peter Taylor upset a lot of fans with his negative tactics from Christmas onwards and we feel that if we had played the kind of football we are capable of then we may well have been in with a squeek of the play offs. Injuries to key players didn`t help either and Taylor had a thing about buying lower league players who didn`t have the abilities to take us forward.

4. Who is your weakest link?

Our left side is not the best, Winger Stuart Elliot scores a lot of goals but he cant defend and this tends to leave our defence in trouble to a pacy right sided player. One thing last season was our inability to defend past our 18 yard box, we just lobbed the ball out and the opposition came right back at us. Obviously our new signings have been brought in to strengthen those weak areas and hopefully they will do the job.

5. Where are you hoping to finish this coming season?

If we can build on last season and finish in the top 10 then that will be looked upon as a succesfull season. The division looks tougher this term with the likes of yourselves, Birmingham & Sunderland coming down from the Premiership as well as the likes of Leeds, Wolves, Palace, Norwich & Southampton to contend with, so yes a top ten placing will be judged as a success.

6. Which team are you looking forward to playing most this season?

Normally no hesitation would be needed and I would say Leeds Utd, but due to the events at the K.C this summer, September 30th and the visit of Crystal Palace is the number one must see fixture.

7. You have signed Dean Marney from Spurs and you are also lining up a deal for Mark Yeates, are you happy that Parkinson is eyeing this young talent as the way forward for Hull?

Yes, he is building a side for the future and if the players we have coming in can develop as we hope they can then I can see us challenging for a Premiership place in a couple of seasons. The majority of the Hull squad are below 25 so they have the potential to be around for a good few seasons.

8. Will you bring many fans to The Hawthorns on the opening day of the season?

Yes, we have a very large away following averaging about 2500 – 3000 travelling fans. We took 8,000 to Hillsborough and a lot of the fans missed the first half due to congestion. A few teams last season had their record crowds when we visited. I see West Brom have given us just over 2700 tickets, I would expect us to sell them all.

9. What are your predictions for the game at The Hawthorns and the return game in Hull at the K.C Stadium?

Its going to be a tough opener for us, you have a lot of class running through your team and if we can get a draw out of it then it will be a good result for us. Hopefully both teams will be challenging near the top of the league when you visit the K.C in February and our new boys will have settled in so I would have to go for a City win.

10. If you could take one player from the Baggies side to play for Hull who would it be?

Tough one that, as I said previously you have a lot of class players in your team, but putting me on the spot and keeping in mind our policy of signing younger players I would have to say Stuart Nicholson. Of the older players at the Hawthorns it would be Greening or Hartson
