West Brom’s Nigel Quashie has spoken about the debt of gratitude he owes to Stoke City boss Tony Pulis.

Quashie admits that he went off the rails after the death of his young son Tyler not long after his birth.

But instead of just having to put up with life, Pulis took him to Portsmouth and helped him through the nightmare back in 2000.

Quashie said: ‘I was having a difficult time in my career and my son died around that time.

‘Tony Pulis took me to Portsmouth and he organised everything for me to get myself right – to see people, to try to get me back right mentally which is something I did not think I would be able to do.

‘He is the one person in my life who brought that stability and for him to do what he did, I cannot thank him enough.’
