A somewhat inevitable and dismal defeat for Albion as our old nemesis Neil Warnock and former Baggie Jay Simpson conspire to stifle our promotion hopes.

Goals from Simpson, Connolly, and Buzsaky were enough to finish a tired and abject Albion; a few of whom couldn’t have long met before being thrust into first-team action.

We can see the logic in another changed side for Roberto Di Matteo; it is at least encouraging that he is willing to bring in new players like Steven Reid and get them straight onto the pitch. Former manager Tony Mowbray was often guilty of buying players and then hardly using them.

No, the problems are more fundamentally to with the team, and in particular the defence.

We need a reliable, class goalkeeper and we need some leadership at the back. Week-in and week-out we are giving away silly goals and hoping to scramble back something in the late stages of the game.

A consolation effort from Chris Brunt at 2-0 did look to do just that, near the end of the first half, but this was quickly snuffed out by Rangers’ third.

Wins for Forest and Newcastle means that Albion are back in the play-off zone and it looks that this promotion campaign still has a long way to go.
