Pundit makes claim about future of £3.6million-rated West Brom man, identifies past admirers

Former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips says that Kenneth Zohore will be pushing to leave the club during the summer transfer window, and that Derby tried to sign the forward when he was a coach at Pride Park.

Zohore only joined the Baggies from Championship rivals Cardiff City last summer, but struggled for opportunities during his debut campaign at The Hawthorns, making just 20 appearances and scoring five goals in all competitions.

It has recently been reported by The Telegraph that Zohore – who is valued at £3.6million by Transfermarkt – is one of several players the Baggies will look to sell following their promotion to the Premier League, and Phillips believes that is something that the striker will be happy to see happen.

Speaking to West Brom News about those reports about Zohore, Phillips said: “When I was at Derby, he was on our radar.

“He’s a big, powerful guy. I think the player himself will want to move on because he knows he won’t play next season. He’ll just want to go and play football. I’m sure of that.”

You are inclined to agree with Phillips here.
First-team opportunities weren’t exactly forthcoming for Zohore last season, and they are only going to be harder for the striker to come by in the Premier League next season.
As a result, it would make sense for him to look for a move elsewhere, since you don’t really imagine he will want to spend another few seasons playing a bit part role for the Baggies.
Indeed, you wonder whether Derby themselves may be tempted to make a fresh move for Zohore in the coming months amid these reports, given the Rams may need to add to their attacking options this summer following the departure of striker Chris Martin at the expiration of his contract.
