Head coach Tony Pulis has been reflecting on West Bromwich Albion’s victory over Arsenal last weekend and he was delighted with the attitude of the players on the day.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail as he met with the media following The Hawthorns based three one victory with a Craig Dawson brace sandwiching a Hal Robson-Kanu effort, a delighted Pulis revealed that there had been a team meeting earlier in the week to discuss the run, and a very simple message to the players given recent results was to ignore the claims that we were becoming complacent and prove it by putting in a performance to be proud of.

‘We had a meeting on Monday with the players. I told them don`t listen to people outside who are not involved with the group. You`ve been fantastic, irrespective of what people say. It`s the most demanding league in the world and what they had achieved was fantastic. And they should be proud of it. Although we lost two games, we`ve got to keep our feet on the ground. We are what we are and they`ve done fantastically well to achieve the 40 points in the time that we`ve done it. Our output against Everton was as good as any output we`ve achieved this year. We know what we are and we know what we`ve got.’

ESPN also have Pulis talking about the performance, and for him with the bar raised this year, the players stood up to that against Arsenal to take a very important victory.

‘You always work as a group and they did it again – without James Morrison and Matty Phillips who have been big players for us. I understand that if you raise the bar and if you don’t reach that again you and the players are going to get criticism. For me, they’ve just been fantastic this year, irrespective of what happens between now and the end of the season.’

With set pieces being key for the game, the Mail also have him saying.

‘Have they conceded a lot? I`m not sure what their record is but, obviously, they conceded two against us. We know that they mark zonal. We do it differently against zonal than man-for-man.’

‘They have five or six players across the six yard box and they have two players who try and block your runners. So if you get away from one of the blocks, you are running at a standing object. You`ve got someone with a standing jump against a person with a running jump. I`ll bet my bottom dollar the person with the running jump will score. We worked on that. But you`ve got to have someone who wants to head it and you`ve got to have the quality of the ball coming in.’

With West Brom now sitting on 43 points for the campaign, Pulis went on to add.

‘Keep giving me 40 points and I`m chuffed to bits – always. Let`s see what next year brings and if we can get a few more players in. People have to realise we`ve only got 16 senior players at this football club. People only scratch the surface, they never dig a little bit deeper and find out what we`ve got and haven`t got. There were two kids on the bench and it`s been like that most of the season.’
