Head coach Tony Pulis has confirmed that West Bromwich Albion have offered skipper Darren Fletcher a new deal and he’s spoken of his worry that our effort in recent ties against Arsenal and Manchester United will see us fall flat against Watford this midweek as efforts catch up with us.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail as he met with the press to preview the game, Pulis opened with team news and the Fletcher deal.

On the team news front he admitted he had some decisions to make given the condition of the players given how hard they applied and worked themselves in our two most recent games, and of course Watford coming four days after Manchester United is hardly the best preparation in any circumstances.

‘There are one or two knocks and niggles, we won`t know until tomorrow if we`ll take a chance or not. Matty`s getting closer. I can`t say whether he`d start or play 45 minutes or whatever.’

He also confirmed that new terms had been offered to Fletcher, and the ball was now in his and the clubs’ court.

‘That`s up to Darren and the football club. We`ve offered him a contract and we`re hoping to get it sorted out. Darren seems happy enough and we certainly want to try and get it done if we can.’

As for Pulis’ concerns about the game, with what the players had put into recent efforts he admitted he was ‘worried’ that those efforts might catch up with us on our trip to Vicarage Road and it might not click for us on the day the way it has been.

‘You play Arsenal and Manchester United and all the hype that goes with those two clubs. The big worry is Watford now. We`re playing Watford on a Tuesday night and it`s going to be a different game and we`ve got to be ready for that game.’

Pulis went on to add.

‘We`ve improved the group, cut back on the numbers, brought a little bit more quality in and that`s what you`ve got to do. We’re not a big club so we can’t go out and splash fortunes. We’ve got to be very picky about who we bring in. And we’ve got to make sure they’re better than what we’ve got so the group always gets a little bit better. But that’s very difficult because its such a small pool when you’re a our level.’
