Head coach Tony Pulis has finally captured Matt Phillips from Queens Park Rangers.

The 25 year old Scottish international wideman has long been on Albion’s shortlist for transfer, and West Brom finally clinched him earlier today.

He comes in for an undisclosed fee and signs a four year deal in the process, and he arrives in time to join his new team mates over in the Austria training camp.

Speaking to wba.co.uk after the deal was signed, Pulis explained.

‘We’re really pleased to have Matty on board. This is a great chance for him to show everyone he belongs in the top-flight of English football.’

Technical Director Nick Hammond added.

‘I think it’s fair to say Matt has been on the radar for a period of time and we’re very pleased to have finally got his signature. He’s a great acquisition because he adds to the versatility within the group. He gives us both wide positions and is also able to play as a central striker. We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Matt to the club.’

Speaking in his own interview after signing the deal, Phillips said he hoped to bring plenty of goals and assists to the club in the coming year.

‘My game is about pace and power and strength, looking to take people on, getting shots off and getting crosses in. Assists and goals – that’s what I will be counting on. I want to get my place in the starting XI and build from there. But I’m not the finished article by any means. I’m 25 and I still feel I can bring more to my game.’

As for what he expects in Austria given Pulis’ methods, he said he’s not fazed.

‘One or two of the lads have warned me about it – but it’s pre-season and you expect it to be tough. But I have spoken to Darren Fletcher and Sandro about coming here and they had nothing but good to say about the club. My last game here was when QPR were fighting for our lives to stay in the Premier League. But it seemed a great stadium with a great atmosphere and I can’t wait to get out in front of the fans and show them what I can do. There’s been a lot of speculation about this move so it is nice to get it signed off. Now I can’t wait to get started.’
