Head coach Tony Pulis has now held his pre Liverpool press conference and said that West Bromwich Albion securing survival is an achievement and anybody who believes otherwise is living in ‘cloud cuckoo land’.

With criticisms this year well known by everybody, from uninspiring play, games that didn’t see a single shot on target, Pulis was again tasked with questions on this topic ahead of the final game of the 2015/16 Premier League game and the Birmingham Mail have him quoted as saying to the media.

‘Anybody who dispels that as not being an achievement at clubs like West Bromwich Albion, they’re in cloud cuckoo land and I really mean that. I`m absolutely delighted with the way we`ve done it this season because we`re still in the Premier League.’

In fairness Pulis has already been speaking about finding a better offensive balance next term, now he has his defensive foundations in place, and that’s to be welcomed by all – but again he doesn’t help himself by referencing what appears to be his favourite Midlands team.

Even if there’s a rueful smile at Aston Villa’s relegation along the way.

‘You look at Newcastle, you look at Aston Villa, and you look at the traditions of those two clubs. You can`t take anything for granted at this level. It`s been an unusual year from top to bottom and to get through it with quite a few games to spare, when you look back the victory against Man United was the one that took us to 39 points, that kept us up. So we did it quite a while ago.’

And many others Tony would say look at another brilliant team defensively – Leicester City.

A fluke yes – but don’t look at clubs that suit your argument whilst ignoring others that show why your argument is questioned.

Let’s instead look to the future and for improvement eh.
