On-loan Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle has been on the interview circuit this week and during another boring international break in the November window, his words have been music to the ears of West Bromwich Albion fans.
With confusion and a bit of intrigue over the deal that saw Salomon Rondon head to St James’ Park with us bringing the 29-year-old to The Hawthorns, we’ve clearly seen the better of that deal with the former Crystal Palace man finding the net nine times in a total of 15 outings across all competitions and one hot topic for debate has always been his future.
Dwight Gayle admits staying at #wba beyond this season has already “crossed his mind”. Loan striker is enjoying his time at the Baggies https://t.co/koSmoj6Oir

In an interview with the E&S the striker confirmed that staying with the Baggies beyond his initial loan spell had already ‘crossed his mind’.
A future transfer would have to be negotiated as neither loan deal included permanent options for either player, but Gayle’s words are certainly positive here.
“Yeah of course it’s crossed my mind. It’s something that will be on the cards but I suppose I’ve just got to get this season out of the way and let others get on with what they’ve got to do and we’ll see how things go. I’m very happy playing my football here and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Anything could happen at the end of the season, we’ve just got to wait and see.”
The reaction from fans on social media to these comments was entirely predictable and for good reason.
If this is true then we need to make this happen. No messing around, we have a gem here who has made a difference. We can’t let that go. We need to learn from past mistakes in the market and get a deal done sooner rather than never

Hope he stays with us absolutely deadly in front of goal and those cheeky backheels and flicks are filthy #wba

For me that is the most impressive thing about Gayle, that despite been effectively forced into a move he didn't want he has knuckled down , given 100% on the pitch and shown enthusiasm for the club in his interaction with the fans.
