Keith Downing has said the players will be well up for doing the double over Villa this season and that they’ll have ‘do it for the fans’ ringing in their ears come kick off.

Speaking to wba.co.uk ahead of the game, the assistant head coach said.

‘We want to do that and we’ve made the players aware of that too. We’ve given the fans a lot of happy moments this season but none greater than beating Wolves and Villa in the same season, and it’s been a long time since we did the double over Villa, nearly 40 years. We’ve laid a few hoodoos to rest this year, and we hope to do so again.’

Whilst the derby will have an added edge as Villa desperately grope for points to ensure safety, Downing knows that an issue for them and we just need to play our game and play to our strengths and leave the expectation and worry for them to deal with.

After our match earlier in the season, he also says Hutton’s Horror tackle on Shane Long won’t be an issue for us or change how the player approaches the game, adding.

‘Shane isn’t that kind of player or person. It won’t be an issue this Saturday.’
