West Bromwich Albion ace Kevin Phillips finished the season as the runner-up in the 2007/08 Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Coca-Cola Championship.

The veteran striker enjoyed a fine campaign, his 22 league goals helping the Baggies clinch the Championship title and also earning him 656 Index points, trailing Stoke’s Liam Lawrence by 31 points.

It was harsh on the former Sunderland frontman, who averaged 19 points per game (two more than Lawrence) but played six fewer games than his rival.

Phillips earned his best score of the season with a 50-point haul against Bristol City back on Boxing Day when he hit a brace.

Team-mate Paul Robinson was also an Actim hero this term, finishing the season in fourth place overall and ranked as the best defender in the league, just 32 points behind Phillips.

Analysis of all Championship games is taking place throughout the season and so far the top five West Brom players are:

Player, Ranking, Position Ranking, Index Score

Kevin Phillips, 2nd, Top Ranked Striker, 656
Paul Robinson, 4th, Top Ranked Defender, 624
Dean Kiely, 28th, 7th Ranked Goalkeeper, 514
Zoltan Gera, 33rd, 10th Ranked Striker, 503
Jonathan Greening, 35th, 9th Ranked Midfielder, 503

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player`s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.
