Opinion: West Brom surely destine for glory after more fantastic news

|

When Slaven Bilic was on the touchline at the Madjeski Stadium on Wednesday night there’s almost no way that he’d have been keeping one eye on the scores around the grounds in the rest of the Championship fixture card that was ongoing that night, so after full-time he’d have been excited to learn hat happened.

As it was, this couldn’t have been a better week of fixtures for the Baggies. Not only did the draw between Leeds United and Brentford on Tuesday evening massively benefit the West Midlands club, but the fact that Nottingham Forest lost at home to Charlton also came as a huge boost, and to ut the icing on an already delicious cake, Fulham dropped two points at the Den.

Those results mean that the state of play in the Championship is extremely healthy for followers of the black country club, as Bilic and have no got a wonderful six-point gap built up between themselves and 2nd placed Leeds and 3rd placed Fulham, who are level on points and separated by just goal difference.

It’s not very often that four of the top five in the Championship all drop points, and after the nightmarish run that the Baggies endured over the Christmas period where their lead at the top of the Championship fell to the point that they dropped into second, getting back to the summit and going six points clear will feel sweet.

This was just the latest step in what has been a journey of a season for Bilic and the supporters, and given that they’ve managed to claim all three points against a talented Reading side in a week when everyone at the top struggled just goes to show how mentally strong the team is.

Can West Brom maintain their winning run?

Yes

No

There are still a lot of games left to be played in the Championship, but with the Baggies safe knowing that they have a two-game cushion effectively set up via their six-point lead, the final 14 games of the season can be enjoyed by the fans as promotion is very much on the cards.
