Opinion: West Brom struck gold with key man as title push hots up

|

This season has been a rollercoaster for West Bromwich Albion supporters, and one that they’ve enjoyed a great deal. A strong start to the season saw their lead at the top of the Championship build-up, yet a shaky Christmas has pulled them into a title fight, and one they’re now climbing out of.

The January transfer window proved to be a key time for the Baggies, though. Slaven Bilic pulled off some brilliant business. The Baggies signed Lee Peltier, Kamil Grosicki and Callum Robinson, and the acquisition of Robinson looks to have been a masterstroke.

The talented left-sided attacker was brought in on-loan from Sheffield United, and he looks to be the final piece of the puzzle that Bilic was looking for, starting all four of the Baggies games since signing and recording ratings of 7+ in all of those (WhoScored).

After three impressive performances against Luton, Millwall and Reading, helping the Baggies to three consecutive wins, Robinson then found his best form against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, scoring the opening goal and putting in a stellar performance in the 2-2 draw.

Across the four games, Robinson’s numbers have been staggering, he’s amassed ten key passes, five dribbles and 19 shots going forwards, whilst also chipping in defensively, making three tackles and six interceptions (WhoScored), coming in off the left he’s been sublime, and long may it continue.

Do you want to sign Callum Robinson permanently?

Yes

No

There will, over time, undoubtedly be knocks on the door from Grosicki to take Robinson’s spot in the team, but so far it looks like the man loaned in from the Blades is everything that Bilic’s Baggies have needed, and long may it continue as the title race draws on.
