Opinion: West Brom need to exploit this key weakness against Swansea

|

Tomorrow, West Brom fans face a tough clash against Swansea City, and the Swans will be no pushovers when they rock up at The Hawthorns. However, they are certainly beatable, and with the Baggies in the form they are, they’ll certainly be the bookie’s favourites for all three points.

For Slaven Bilic and co to ensure that they get all three points from this one, they will have to take advantage of a weakness in the Swans’ side. The Welsh outfit have got some firepower in their side, but one area, in particular, can be got at by the Baggies.

Looking at Steve Cooper and his side, the left-hand side looks to be a lot weaker than the right, in both defence and attack. At full-back, Jake Bidwell is averaging a worse rating at left-back compared to right-back Connor Roberts, and out wide in attack Andre Ayew is outperforming Wayne Routledge (WhoScored).

With that in mind, and considering the strength that Bilic has out in wide areas, it looks like the Baggies could be set to really hit the visiting side down that flank, and right-back Darnell Furlong and right-winger Matt Phillips are in flying form this season.

That pair, down the right, have scored seven and assisted two goals between them whilst managing a combined 3.4 shots, 3.7 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game when linking up down the flank (WhoScored), and are surely one of the deadliest pairings on a single flank in the Championship.

Do West Brom have the best squad in the Championship?

Yes

No

It certainly helps that Swansea are going into this clash on the back of a run of four games without a win, and when coupling that with the fact that the Baggies have the right players in form in the right positions to get at Swansea’s weak points, there’s a lot to suggest that the home side could claim all three points at The Hawthorns tomorrow.
