Opinion: West Brom cannot afford to stand still as time is fast running out

|

The Championship was rocked yesterday when Leeds United completed the signing of the impressive young striker Jean-Kevin Augustin (BBC), and this looks like it could be the moment in which the Whites start to get back on track on their way towards promotion to the Premier League.

However, Leeds are currently 2nd, and that’s down to the fact that West Brom have had a very good season so far. If the Baggies don’t act in the next few days as the January transfer window draws to a close, though, they could very quickly drop behind the Yorkshire side.

Whilst Leeds have brought in a clinical and impressive striker in Augustin, Slaven Bilic needs to get someone in to match the marquee signing that has been gifted to Marcelo Bielsa, be it Mislav Orsic or someone else who can come in and show off his talent.

The Baggies are in woeful form in the Championship at the moment, despite the fact that they overcame West Ham 1-0 in London on the weekend to advance into the FA Cup 5th round, but now if they want to regain their form in the domestic league they could really do with a signing.

The likes of Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana and Matt Phillips have been in flying form this season, but they’re wingers and shouldn’t be burdened with the job of scoring the lion’s share of the goals, so an Orsic type signing to play as a forward and in the #10 position could be perfect.

Will Slaven Bilic guide us back to the Premier League?

Yes

No

Whatever happens, the Baggies need to open the chequebook and make things happen very quickly if they want to stay in this title fight, as Bilic and co will not want to find themselves left stranded and facing a battle for promotion via the play-offs.
