Opinion: Striker has uncertain future at West Brom, could leave this summer

|

Kenneth Zohore has an uncertain future at West Bromwich Albion after a disappointing debut season. The 26-year-old was signed on a four-year deal from Cardiff City last summer, but his injury woes and poor form under Slaven Bilic could see him be moved on in the coming months.

Who has scored the most Championship goals?

Zohore has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals and making one assist. His debut campaign got off to a good start with two goals in his first five games, but The Danish striker wouldn’t ripple the back of the net again for three months.

He amassed only nine minutes of Championship football in October 2019 due to a calf injury, racked up one minute of football in November and didn’t play in February 2020 or March.

Zohore’s last league appearance came in Albion’s 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City on January 28, but he did play 23 minutes in the Baggies’ FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Newcastle United on March 3.

West Brom paid £8m for three league goals and 602 minutes of playing time from Zohore this season, but they knew he’d be a gamble before his arrival. As per Transfermarkt, Zohore scored one goal and made one assist in 20 games for Cardiff last season.

The Baggies thought they were signing the centre-forward who had a hand in 17 goals in 2016/17 and 14 goals in 2017/18, but he’s looked a shadow of that player at the Hawthorns. Kevin Phillips told West Brom News in March that Zohore could be moved on if the club went up, and that would certainly seem to be the case.

Whether Albion will get their money back this summer remains to be seen, though, as he’s not exactly put himself in the shop window.
