Opinion: Promotion would be almost guaranteed if West Brom beat Leeds to Premier League striker

West Bromwich Albion fans have enjoyed some scintillating football from their side this season. The Baggies have lit up the Championship with their stellar attacking style, and Slaven Bilic is the man who has delivered the supporters with a brand of football worth tuning in for.

However, as good as the Baggies have been, Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United have been equally as impressive, and it’s the Yorkshire side who sit at the top of the Championship, albeit only by the narrow margin of having +22 goal difference the Baggies +20 with both of them on 52 points.

However, now that the January transfer window is upon us, both the Whites and the Baggies could be set to make some signings, bring in some reinforcements and aim to outdo one another to get back to the Premier League by topping the second tier.

With that in mind, the news has broken that both sides are eyeing up a move for Sheffield United’s David McGoldrick, and whilst the 32-year-old has infamously failed to score a goal in the Premier League, his work rate and link-up play has made him a key player in Chris Wilder’s system.

Scoring goals in the Championship was no issue for the big man in the Championship, though. The six-foot-tall front-man bagged himself an impressive 15 goals for the Blades in their promotion-winning season (Transfermarkt), and how the Baggies could do with a little bit of that.

Will Slaven Bilic guide us back to the Premier League?

The Baggies have five players with five or more goals this season, yet none of them have managed to amass double figures, and if McGoldrick could come in and do that this season then the Baggies would surely make promotion a guarantee.
