Academy graduate Liam O’Neil has been rewarded for his progress last season with a new one year deal at the club.

The 20 year midfielder effectively had his break through season in 2013-14 and he has now put pen to paper on a new 12 month deal, with the usual 12 month option in the club’s favour.

The new deal will come into force on July 1st.

Having made his debut as a substitute in our 2-1 victory over Swansea back in March, he went on to figure in two other games, against Norwich and Stoke, both from the bench, so he’ll be looking to get a handful of starts under his belt next season if he can.

Director of Football Administration Richard Garlick said of the improved deal to wba.co.uk.

‘We are delighted to hand Liam a new deal. He made a significant leap forward during the second half of last season and showed great maturity. Yet again, credit must go to our Academy staff for bringing him through the ranks successfully.’

Garlick says his involvement with the first team, and the experience of being on the bench during match days will have been an invaluable experience for him, and it’s something now that hopefully he will build on next term.
