“One Of The Best” – Former West Brom Player Hails Summer Capture

One of the best bits of business West Bromwich Albion did over the summer was obviously, bringing in manager Slaven Bilic, but allied closely to that was the season long loan arrival of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Pereira.

The 23-year-old quickly adjusted to life at The Hawthorns and in the Championship and he’s been incredibly impressive in his 15 starts and four substitute appearances so far, returning five goals and 10 assists already in the campaign of 2019/20.

Having come in for plenty of praise from pundits and fans alike – especially as we already have a reported £9million buy clause in place to enact when we want – Pereira is clearly already in the running for Player of the Season as we gun for promotion back to the Premier League, and hopefully, as Champions.

Nigel Quashie’s spell at the club didn’t last long really, and he quickly moved on again, but in a recent interview he’s clearly been keeping his eyes on us this year, and Pereira has definitely caught his attention.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to go up there and watch them every week and one thing I will say is, what a player. Not just being a creative number 10, but his work ethic, his attitude, his determination, his desire. These are things you can’t teach as a coach. He’s obviously come in from a European club where the football is a bit slower, but he’s come in and landed on his feet straight away. He’s contributed to the team with and without the ball. It has been a pleasure to sit there and see someone like that come in and really stamp his authority on the team and the league. I wouldn’t be far off from saying that he’s one of the best attacking players I’ve seen at West Brom in a long, long time.”

There will be few who can disagree with his assessment I’d have thought.
