Defender Jonas Olsson has said that West Brom are looking up the table and not down following the result against Everton.

Having been absolutely battered at Goodison Park on Saturday but somehow coming out with a one nil victory with a very determined defensive showing on the day, Olsson told Sky Sports that the result was absolutely ‘massive’ for the club.

With the result putting the club eight point clear of the drop zone now and onto 32 points for the year, the Swede explained.

‘It is a big three points for us. We have been struggling a bit lately in the league, so to come here and win is a massive performance for us. It is still so tight, as it is usually is between sixth, seventh, eighth place and 16th and 17th, but with this win I think we have started to look up rather than what is beneath us. Now have a few home games to look forward to and hopefully we can get over the line (40 points) sooner or later. It is normally January or February where you have to make your mark.’

Olsson went on to say that with the statistics from the Everton match which showed they dominated possession and had a whopping 34 attempts on goal – albeit only six on target – that it shows what a defensive shift the players put in.

‘The statistics show when we get the first goal we are a hard team to beat. I can’t really remember any really clear-cut chances apart from Ross Barkley hitting the post in the first half and then a mis-hit cross, which hit the woodwork as well. They had a lot of the ball and a lot of chances, but in the end we dug it out and it was comfortable to defend.’
