Roy Hodgson has said it hasn’t come as a surprise that clubs are looking towards Michael Appleton for management jobs.

In recent reports our assistant coach has been linked with the vacant Portsmouth job, and Hodgson said of the speculation on wba.co.uk.

‘Michael is an excellent young coach and we have to accept that there are clubs out there who know their business and will target people like Michael because he’s ready for a top job. I’m sure that when Michael takes a top job, he’ll make a big success of it.’
